Ballarat !!
#1
Hi Peeps,

We are coming over from Perth as soon as the house here sells ( anyone wanna buy it ) <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

There may be a chance to get work in Ballarat, any tips on what it like to live there ?

I know it's a smallish country town,

but is it cliquey hicksville with straw chewing farmers or a pleasant relaxed place ?

Looking on google it looks quite nice and house prices seem good.

Is there a major downside other than distance from Melbourne ?

And comments would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there,

I have not spent much time there but I would say it is a pretty nice town. And I knew a guy who left Melbourne to go and retire in Ballarat so it must be alright. The only thing I actually remember is they have a McDonalds and of course they have their tourist attraction, Sovereign Hill. I think there is a V-Line train from ballarat to the city so that might help a bit.

Cheers, Glen

I've been to Ballarat & it's really lovely. Yes they got The Reject Shop, KMart & all those kinds of places.

Ballarat is a beautiful place and you would be so lucky to move there. We use to go for alot of holidays there as a kid and my sister was born there. I wouldn't really call it a small country town as it really has gone ahead. Sadly with the droughts etc the beautiful lake wendouree where i use to go and feed the swans as a young girl is all dried out.

They have many attractions there, Sovereign Hill being the main Attraction. Its a step back in time to the Gold Rush days where people are dress in period costume and you can buy wanted posters or boiled sweets to name a couple. You can pan for gold or ride on the cobb and co coach. Plenty to see and do . They also have Eureka Stockade etc. There are beautiful gardens and they were known for their Begonias.. Ballarat is a very pretty spot with many beautiful Trees and as you drive through the Arch of Victory the rows of trees are stunning. I love Ballarat and Im sure you would to. Plenty of great shops too! And not too far from Melbourne for a day trip <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> Hope that helps.
