The Big Band event of the year! U.S. trumpet virtuoso Wayne Bergeron and trombone supremo Wycliffe Gordon, join Melbourne's B SHARP Big Band for 3 explosive sets of Big Band swing!
Over the years, Wayne Bergeron has been closely involved with hundreds of the worldâs top jazz artists, more notably, with the late Maynard Ferguson as well as Gordon Goodwinâs Big Phat Band. He is one of the worldâs most 'in demand' session players and has performed with the likes of Diana Krall, Mel Torme, Ray Charles, Rosemary Clooney, Tito Puente and Bette Midler. His film soundtrack credits include Superman Returns, Mission Impossible 3 and Mr & Mrs Smith amongst many others. Wayne has worked on over 300 TV & motion picture soundtracks and is renowned for his powerful sound, stratospheric range and overall virtuosity. This is his first visit to Australia.
Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon is best known for his work with the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of jazz maestro, Wynton Marsalis. With an Ellington era quality, this superstar of trombone can scat, multi-note, slide and plunge just like he stepped out of the 1930s. Wycliffe has played with many jazz luminaries, including Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Henderson, Branford Marsalis, Lionel Hampton & Shirley Horn. He enjoys an extraordinary career as a performer, conductor, composer, arranger and educator, and tours the world performing his brand of hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz. Over the past 8 years, Gordon has regularly been awarded 'Trombonist of the Year' by the the U.S. 'Jazz Journalists Association'.
The B# Big Band features some of Australiaâs highest calibre jazz and session musicians. Details of their achievements and experiences can be found at the band's website. The combination of Wayne Bergeron, Wycliffe Gordon and B# will be an ultimate finale to the 'Melbourne International Festival Of Brass' for 2008. It'll be a rare and exciting night of Big Band Swing.
