Shocking Difference In Utilities Prices
#1
My friends told me what they pay in Melton for electricity and gas - given the kilowatt hours and cubic meters, you folks in the Melbourne area are paying between 1/2 and 1/3 what I pay in Buffalo NY! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Taking into account the price of housing, I'll STILL be saving money when I move there!

Wow - I'm shocked at the difference. What they pay per quarter is what we pay per MONTH and even then only if we're very careful on usage. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hi Ikyoto,

I think they are predicting that those prices will rise if Australia introduces a carbon emissions trading scheme. Though it might be another year or so before that actually happens.

As long as they don't triple, we'll still be ahead of where we are now.

I got the impression they might double <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But hopefully that won't happen anytime soon!!

Also they say the price of water might increase when they finish the new Melbourne Water Desalination Plant. Though that will also be a few years off.
