Hi i'm a newbie here.
Been lurking for a while but what a fab site this is - very informative!!
Could someone please help. I have a job offer in Epping and waiting to hear from the other one in Box hill.
Could someone please advise me on the type of suburbs they are and what the surrounding areas are like too. Are they good/decent enough for a young family?
thank you.

Hi there, Box Hill is a pretty lively place with lots of shops and restaurants. Very popular with asians. So if you like asian food it is the place to go!!! Also they have some good asian grocery stores to buy the less common ingredients (like those crazy mushrooms i bought the other day mentioned in another thread).
I don't know much about Epping other than they have some shopping centre. I think it is called Epping Plaza. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':bee:' />
Box Hill has become more expensive in the last few years. Not sure exactly on current house prices. Should be fine for a family.
Cheers, Glen

me again! sorry - more questions about areas.
I am going round in circles and really need help to decide once and for all. I have accepted the job in Epping now i need to decide where i need to live or roughly where about. I have so many areas i need to narrow them down a bit.
This is what i would like in terms of a suburb -
nice family suberb, close to shops, restauants, good schools, social activities so good community base, close to tram line, around $300pw to rent. I have chosen the areas below as they are within commuting distance to epping but situated closer in direction to CBD and the beach.
The areas that i am looking at are -
preston, heidleburg heights, rosanna, watsonia, macleod, kingsbury, watsonia, bundoora, greensborough. Have been advised to avoid reservoir and thomastown as not very nice.
Please help me narrow them down and please comment on each on what they offer. I know that i will only be able to tell once i get out there but i need to narrow the search down a bit.
thanks for all the help.

I would recommend you get a Melways and read through the maps to get a feel for where the facilities are.
