Looks like a good site. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

Didn't know you could get an 19" LCD TV with built in DVD "thingy" for $350 - might get one for the bedroom. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The site is still down. Does it review products from here? http://www.aldi.com.au/

We have an ALDI not far from me. Can be quite cheap but usually takes a long time to get through the check out! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Looks like it's back up now, although the Google ads are on top of the board graphics (in firefox anyway).

It does work OK if you use Opera 9.52 or MSIE 6.0 but the ads are on top of the board graphics instead of over it.

Whats a "Google Adsense [Bot]"?

Hi all,

Simon here, creator of AldiReviews...

Thanks for this discussion thread <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

I didn't even know this Melbourne chat forum existed.

So, I think some of you jumped onto the site JUST as I was adding the google ads. I've now tested them in Firefox 3, IE 8 (beta) and Google Chrome... seems fine now.

And I hope they are non-intrusive and don't get in the way of the usage of the site, however if you think they should be placed elsewhere, let me know.

So, yeah, if any of you have suggestions for the site, please let me know, I'm happy to make it useful for you all.

Oh, and I just uploaded this weeks specials..

"Whats a "Google Adsense [Bot]"?"

The forum software has all the major search bots setup in it so that their crawling of the site (for Google/yahoo/msn search etc, and for google adwords) doesn't play havok with the statistics. (They aren't counted, or are counted but grouped into 'bots').

[edit] This is what the site is supposed to look like:

Hi Simon <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

With Firefox 3 I'm still having the ads appearing over the top of the graphics on the right hand side.

So it still looks like this for me...

Would me restarting Firefox help I wonder?

Cheers,

Ahhh, didn't notice that... ok, yeah, that would happen I guess if the screen wasn't wide enough.

Ok, I'll fix that by removing the right hand side ad then... aaaaand....

Done.

How's that now? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yep, the ads are gone, I'll do you another print screen in a sec. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Don't worry about the screengrab, I see what your issue was... <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I should work out the right css to stop that pushing in over the inner bit... hmm, actually I think I know, I'll try it during a less busy time of the day. I do like symmetry, so would like them on both sides... just to make it feel... 'balanced' <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Or, would people prefer if it only had them over on the right like here? I quite like the resizing nature of this site, but probably don't have time to fiddle with the theme to make it work, hmm, or maybe I do, I'll look into it anyway, best to use the screen if it's there I think.

If it's any help to you - you can check what it looks like on all different browsers - it takes about 20mins to show you the whole lot - but it shows how different browsers react.

Hey, that is absolutely awesome! Not just for this, but for work (we do web based applications). Just brilliant. Thanks <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Looks like it still has issues with older IE and other things, I might just turn off the ads for now. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The analogue tuner concerns me, in this age of digital... it's being fazed out soon so not a great thing to have in a set you're buying now.

Resolution is very much a pc resolution (same as my 19" lcd monitor on my pc actually), so it has to scale to that, which is pretty normal I guess.

It's one of those items you really, really don't want to buy sight unseen though, if you can't view it running instore, I wouldn't bother...

You are indeed.

They have very odd weekly specials for a supermarket. For instance, this week they have Men's suits, an overhead projector, and manchester. Other weeks they've had things as bizarre as a foldable wheelchair. And it's for that reason I love them <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Who goes to a supermarket to buy a wheelchair?

I suppose I could just get a tuner for the computer and watch tellie on the 19" monitor here.
