Hello All! Nice To Meet You!
#1
Hi,

Just an introduction really!

Family of 5 on our way to Melbourne. Husband coming in January (as he's landed a good job) and me and kids following when house sold.

I've been really excited up until recently but now I've hit scared. I don't know if its coz J is coming first and I'm following later or that Melbourne is one of the places in Australia we haven't visited and yet it's where we're about to bring our kids to live to grow up???.

We're not sure where to look to find a home - you hear the east suburbs are the best - but I don't know?

All I want is good schools for the kids which aren't going to break the bank and somewhere ideally family oriented with views. I know I'd rather not have to get the kids into school and then move them again later.

As I said J is coming first and we're in a bit of a dilemma over initial accomodation.

Any comments/real life experience would be extremely helpful!

Thank you!

Hi Glen,

I can believe it is a common question and yes have had a good read through the other posts.

Just really aiming at people who have recently made the move for some moral support and advice.

Recently bought a downloadable doc off the net called ' Where to live in Melbourne', however, it must have been written some time ago as the house prices shown in there are not in line with today's prices. Here we are thinking we could afford certain areas but as it turns out we're having to look around 40km outside melbourne for affordable housing.

Are we better just getting there and then looking at areas and schools?

J's job is in Scoresby, Knox!

How long would you be able to get out of not sending the kids to school?

Thanx

Hi there <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

If you're looking for Affordability I'd suggest heading north around Craigieburn, Roxborgh Park etc:

Around $250k to $300k for a 3 bedder....

Australian housing prices over average income is among the most expensive in the world at the moment.

Interest rates have just dropped near to 1% as well so it'll probably go up even further.
