Moving To Melbourne

Hello, we will move to melbourne August or september this year. And we will move to Atlona.

During our holiday (okt. - Nov. 2008), we looking in this area for houses with 2 or 3 bedrooms. But we have no information at time about this area. Is it save...?.

I never heard anything bad about Altona. Seems to be fine. I know a lot of Europeans live in the area. For example lots of Maltese people.

We have seen a lot of nice town houses but I don´t know exactly what we have to do?

Can you help me in this question?

We will move to Australia in middle of August. Is it possible i 1 or 2 weeks to rent a house?

I suspect you may need more time than 1 or 2 weeks, but i guess you could always stay in some cheap hotel while you were waiting to find a suitable place.

We can not find the answer in the internet. I will come to Australia with the Visum 457.

Hi Patrick,





As for entering Australia to live or work, it depends on what degrees you have had and such, to work in Australia, you need some type of University or Tafe Degree to support your Visa.



To work, in Australia you need to:

1. Have a Degree in which would support a job for ongoing work or you could apply for a student visa on which you have to enroll to study, that allows you to work for 20 hours per week only but have to be enrolled.
2. A clean Criminal Record with no convictions in a total of 12 months, eg, 2 convictions of 6 months each come to 12 and therefore would be refused entry (Clean Record is requested on all visas)
3. When entering Australia using a Visitor visa (None working), you should limit the documentation you bring to prevent Customs from believing you are coming to work illegally (When applying for a job, they are requested for you to proof you are allowed to work)
4. Make sure you declare all Criminal Dealings in the past, any foods you bring and such, if you don't declare something you'll get a $220.00 on the spot fine.
5. And the last thing, never lie on a visa forum, if you lie, you will be refused entry just like that, if you are refused entry, your flight will be a waste of money and any money it cost will be gone so make sure everything on your visa is right, it's better to have your visa declined when you apply then it refused at Melbourne Airport (after you paid to get here), and remember, the city is a much better place to visit than an airport.

Every visitor to Australia gets checked again to make sure they haven't lied, while in the USA people can enter just like that, in fact people can enter the US for 3 months without a visa while in Australia you need a visa for every, working in Australia, study etc.





But seeing you wanna live in Melbourne, and work, you would need to have a supporting degree or a sponsor but i'm not really sure how that sponsor thing works anyway, i think it works when you have a job lined up for you before you enter Australia.
