Having Kids In Melbourne
#1
Hi all,

We are fairly new to Melbourne and are planning on starting a family. We have been here since August 2006.

My wife has said that we should both go for pre-pregnancy tests. We haven't got any kids, so I'm not sure what she means or where to go.

We live in St Kilda, do you know which clinics/hospitals can help us out?

We are on 457 (temporary resident) visas, does this make any difference concerning Medicare and fees? My wife is from a non-reciprocal country and I'm English.

I'd also be interested in hearing other stories about having kids here, and of course any pointers too,

Many thanks,

David.

Sounds like you are after genetic prenatal screening. I included a few links below for interests sake. Though I think the usual thing to do is to just go to a doctor (i.e. a GP!) and they advise on what you should do.

If you want to find a doctor in your local area then look here:
