What Is A Shit Eating Grin?

Hey guys,



Apparently, when leaving Federal Parliament on Thursday night, Tony Abbot said that Julia Gillard had been sporting a "shit eating grin" during Question Time.

Now I had never heard this expression before so I looked it up on the net. It sounds terrible to me! But it seems like the definitions on the net are nicer than what I had imagined.



I am amazed that wikipedia covers it!

I would be interested to hear if anyone has heard or used this expression before and what they think it means.

I'm surprised you had never heard of the expression, glen.



I have always thought that a "shit eating grin" meant either a stupefied smile or an exaggerated sense of self worth or understanding of a situation.



I had heard the expression (on an ABC sitcom named Billable Hours) just days before Peter Abbot's mouth got him headlined.

I thought the same Glen; however, I just checked an online TV guide and Billable Hours airs at 10:30 pm Thursday night, that's the same night the comments were made. Then again, Peter Abbott may have some parliamentary privileged early access to ABC content. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':laugh:' />
