Hello!
#1
Hi all,

Very excited to be here in such a helpful forum.

My wife, our 3 month-old baby boy, and I are relocating to Melbourne for 12 months for my fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, which is situated along the Gisbourne St, East Melbourne (ignore this if this is obvious to the locals <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> ).

We are planning to rent a place for the duration. We aren't used to live in high rise apartments and prefer a 'Townhouse'. We are familiar with the following web sites: realestate.com.au, domain.com.au and have been brwosing though lots of properties. We have some ideas of the price range, location etc.

We have two families in Melbourne. My uncle lives in Oak Park and my auntie lives in Rowville. He has sugested the following closeby northern suburbs: Moonee Ponds, Pascoe Vale, Essendon. We have also looked at East Melbourne although not many affordable townhouses, and Richmond, but was told the latter can be unsafe (??) Also South Yarra but once again expensive.

Our preferences, in addition to the 'Townhouse', are somewhere within Zone 1, I will be happy to catch train/tram/bus to work, she will be a full-time mum, so somewhere close to shops/shopping centre, parks for walks with the baby, safe neighbourhood, close to transport - all the ideals of course but nothing can be perferct <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Also, any thoughts for furnished vs unfurnished?? Keeping in mind only for a year, I guess location is much more imprtant.

Thank you all in advance for the advice, very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Toh
