New To Melbourne, Looking For Friends
#1
I'm a 34 y/o single american new to melbourne. Ive spent a few weeks going to a few pubs and am finding it hard to meet friends. Everybody seems to have their little group. I'm open to meeting men or women for dinners, evenings at a pub, or other things.

I'm well educated, travel a lot, and enjoy good conversation, so I am sure there are plenty of cool people that I could hang out with, i just havent seemed to get connected yet.

Hi Chris,

You say you are from America, whereabouts? I have moved here about 4 months ago from the US and I have also found it difficult to make friends. I am not sure if you are looking to be more than friends, as I unfortunately am not. But if you are down to chat or email to get to know each other and then go out for a drink or dinner or to get out during the day and see some of the city together, I would be up for that.

Hi Chris, J Marie, and Kara...

Yeah I feel the same way too. I am a new-bee in this cosmopolitan city. And it seems so hard to make friends. May be should make plan for coffee or something. As I am a new member of Melbourne City, I have nobody and I am looking for friends that can become a great "family". I have interest with multi-cultural background, arts, sports, coffee, everything as we can do it together. I am 28 years old and a post-grad student.

Thank you

Hi everyone,

My name is Shae, and I'm moving to Melbourne in mid-January. I'm Australian but have been living in the States for the past 12 years just finished up Uni over here. I'd love to make some connections before I get there, I'm a bit nervous about not knowing many people in the city!

Does anyone have suggestions for me?

Thanks so much!

I'll probably be moving back to Melbourne (from Geelong) very late February Shae... and will be living in the south east area.

Are you interested in rock climbing?... there is a nice indoor rock climbing centre in the melbourne cbd. I haven't climbed for a while; can't seem to find anyone to climb with. ...oh, and i'm very much a beginner climber.

Hey Shae - perhaps we can arrange another coffee meet up around the time of your arrival - then you can meet some of us and hopefully make some aquaintances and maybe even friends in time. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Welcome to the forum - tell us a bit about yourself Shae <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tonguearty:' />

Peter J,

I lived in Melbourne for a few years before I left, out in the suburbs, but since I was 11 when I left I've definitely fallen out of contact with most people I knew then. I have family all over Victoria, mostly in Gippsland, which is where I was born.

Iblis,

To be honest I'm a bit afraid of heights so I've never tried rock climbing!! I'd definitely be willing to try though!

Kara,

I'd love to meet up for coffee! I think I'm going to be traveling a bit when I first arrive, going to see friends and family around VIC, and perhaps up to Queensland to visit my Mum. So for sure when I'm back in Melbourne!

A bit about myself...I'm 23, female (people can't always tell from my name!), just graduated from Uni in Texas with a double degree in Business and Art History. I love travel, art, movies, and I'm a really social person. I get bored/ lonely extremely easily! I'm moving back to Australia after 12 years in the states, which is a bit scary, I'm at a weird stage in my life where I'm trying to figure out who I want to be/ what I want to do/ where I want to end up.

I'd love to hear a bit about all of you!

Thanks again,

Shae

=)

That's ok ... well whenever you can do it, i'l be happy to try and arrange something with everyone or whatever.

Yah i presumed male i will admit! haha I get bored easily too ... boredom is a horrible thing! I love being around people and miss it an awful lot, though over the past month i've managed to build up some contacts and things are starting to roll ... was invited to a NYE party last night in fact and met a couple new friends that said they'll be happy to have me come out drinking with em etc .... feels good to be slowly finding new buddies.

I know what you mean ... i have been going through an identity crisis of sorts but am finally finding myself grounded.

I'm 24 F, born in Victoria ... lived here all my life except 2 years in Queensland. I love Melbourne! I love Photography, nature, trees (but no, im not a tree hugger), animals, coffee, tea, chocolate, socialising, Wii, board games ... im not sure what else to say, 2009 has been a Big year for me. Was with a guy for a little over 7 years, living with him and engaged to him, and it broke up 4 or so months ago ... so i had to move back home with my mum and i've been straightening things out ever since .... had to find a new job coz i worked by my (now) ex. I like to just have a nice free good time .... no stress, no expectation, just being myself - not into material things like shopping, makeup, hair, clothes etc etc ... just like people to be themselves and accept me for being me.

again, Welcome! =)

I don't have a degree - in fact i never even finished high school ... never did any kind of studies after i left either. I've lead quite an uninteresting adulthood so far! HAHA
Ah cara Kara.

Nice to know I'm not alone in the Uni stakes.

Well I have been to Oxford and got to see where Newton had his room.

Oh it may have been Cambridge not sure now which one it was?

You uninteresting adulthood?

No way! All that chaos in love! Nearly enough to fill a book!
HAHA, you don't know the half of it either really. Seems the only thing i got going for me is relationships .. or the failing of em. But at least im having fun along the way! haha

It's a fail BECAUSE it finished at 7 years ... also i really should not have ben in the relationship for that long. Also the interactions i've had since have not lasted ... but i guess everyone gets that
