Still A Good Idea?

Now that the IS have burned alive a Jordanian pilot, do the Greens still think that a nice chat over biscuits and tea will get the IS to show their soft side?

I think the Greens should have a nice chat over biscuits and tea with the Queen and tell her we want to be a republic Smile

As for IS, get us the hell outta there. Not our war, not our zoo, not our monkeys...

Quote:Hi Power.

You want a republic, and that's fine.
Not everyone want's a republic, and surely that's fine as well?
BTW, the Queen is not stopping us from becoming a republic.
I agree. For as long as we remain the 52nd state of the USA we will never be a republic.

Quote:About IS, unfortunately they/it are here and want to behead someone in Martin Square. (Public knowledge) It will be impossible to stop.
So, still better to stop their progress on another turf.
The longer we remain on their turf the more aggressive they will be on our turf.

If the above is the criteria for their "progress" we are better off stopping it here by staying here.

Let's go on our own; that's the point of independence - who wants a Chinese or Yankee head of state?

Sorry Peter, I fail to see the connection between the Greens and IS. Maybe the Greens are capable of arming the Jordanian army and IS with some kind of peace potion to go with their tea and bikkies or something.

So what's more pathetic do you think?

A minor political party prosecuting environmentalist polices in Australia or the Liberal Party sending our troops to the other side of the planet, in harms way, insulting them with a less than inflation payrise and forfeiture of a day off every year whilst endangering our own safety by inviting the enemy to retaliate on home soil? Still a good idea?

Sarah Henderson is a member of the Liberal Party Smile

If you're referring to Sarah Hanson Young I did a google search and haven't found anything about sitting down and talking to the IS. Not suggesting she didn't but as a scepticist I prefer to see details...

Re head of state. Your english was fine - my reply was tongue in cheek.

A democratic republic is fine by me - if such a thing is possible.

Well that's fine. I don't know the context so it's hard to comment. As I said they should talk to the Queen instead Smile

We don't need to talk to the IS and we don't need to be there. It's only a matter of time before we get put into the same position as the US or Jordan and I don't think I could handle the media fallout on every TV and radio channel and every internet site for a month or two. It's not our problem. What is our problem is the fact we have dozens of these utter nutters roaming around in this country preaching Sharia Law and threatening to kill all and sundry. It's already happened. As an Australian resident if I behaved that way I'd be locked up faster than you could say WTF ?

(as in Where's The Flag) Smile

"Tony Abbott is sending Australians back into a war zone.

The crisis unfolding in Iraq is undeniable, but we should be dealing with it diplomatically, not with war.

Join us on the steps of South Australias parliament house on Friday 19th September from 5:00 pm to show Tony Abbott that South Australia says no to war!

This is an ill-considered action and Parliament wasnt even given a voice.

Will you stand with me on the steps of parliament house and say no?

"

That was S.H.Y. on September 19, 2014 before the troops were deployed as part of a no war rally.

Fair enough statement really; while I don't think it can be dealt with diplomatically it certainly can't be dealt with by sending our troops there. Having seen the Jordanian pilot video in full (and refuse to post it on our forum) it reinforces my view that we shouldn't be within a bulls roar of that area because of the obvious recriminations stated in previous posts.

Let's get out of there and let's have an early election Smile

Good grief - what the F?

SOB's come to this country and plan unspeakable outrages against folks they don't know and it's Abbotts fault???????

Hello?

There can be no justification of extremist behaviour

The can be no argument in combating this behaviour at it's source.

Why have an army if it cannot be used to further the  cause of those who fund it?

Combating the behaviour at its source? It's a self appointed umbrella organised worldwide caliphate.

If these aggressors are coming here or starting their aggression here then here is where the source is.

Shirley the underlying purpose of a "defence" dept is to defend against a threat to national security???

Ask yourself what is the greater threat? ISIS extremists in Iraq / Syria or ISIS extremists in Australia?

Anyways... back on Chewsday Wink
