Let's Hear It For Qantas
#1

"Qantas recovers to post $203m profit

QANTAS Airways has bounced back from last year’s heavy loss to deliver its best interim result in four years, as its massive transformation program continues to pay dividends."

Great result here after the last few years losses -this is the only thing that can save this Australian business. The other good thing is that their airline fleet is reducing in types and increasing in quality and economy.

All the hard decisions over the past few years are showing positive results. Perhaps the most significant result for future prospects is the rising customer satisfaction level.

Yep, good one! No further need for them to blame their own workforce for losses.

Profits and productivity outcomes, good or bad, start at the top, the proof is right there Smile

Heh Heh maybe their improvement plans included sorting out a few workforce issues - and now that it has been done the management and workforce can work more amicably.

I guess the problems come when either side - if there has to be sides - becomes stronger than the other. That could be either side!

Profit or loss comes from the whole entity, management cannot add value but they can install better policies and procedures that's their job.

Workers or value adders can function more  productively with better policies and procedures.

It should really always be seen as a unit not a war zone based on out dated thinking.

As for blame - clearly some always prefer to blame management and some always the value adders - depending on their rigidly held biases. A profitable enterprise can reward workers and shareholders.

Sorry about the preaching!

5000 staff was harsh... pretty easy to turn a profit after that. Rolleyes

Let's hope the outsourcing doesn't result in maintenance issues that affect safety. The last Qantas plane I went on was sh!t, small and old (although refitted)...

Still, good to see they're still in the game.

I merely make the point that overseas servicing does not necessarily mean a lower standard.
