And The Point Is....?
#1
I've no idea why this site was set up, so first off please forgive my ignorance but having stumbled across the site during my initial investigations to possibly relocate to Melbourne from overseas, I thought it might help to settle some natural fears, apprehensions, answer basic questions, provide hints and tips to avoid relocation mistakes... Having looked and looked it seems everyone here is a little hacked off with these type of questions. So my question....What's the Point in this site....? What d'ya all wanna talk about???

I'll try a different approach, I last visted Melbourne 20 years ago as a backpacker, having grown up and now with 3 little responsibilities in tow, tell me Melbourne Oracle, what does Melbourne hold for me and my new generation? Regardless of my native country.... Melbourne, sell it to me!

Thanks in advance... <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon_rainbow.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

hi daisy,

i must admit i do get a little annoyed getting asked the same questions over and over when people could easily just read the previous conversation.... but they are often too lazy to do that.

and i also i do get a bit annoyed by open-ended questions like "sell Melbourne to me". as if we don't have better things to do! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> selling melbourne is not the purpose of the site at all. it sells itself!

but if you have done a little research yourself and have a more specific question then we are certainly here to help <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

oh good, Glen, i'm not the only one that thought the original poster was being obnoxious. American, perhaps?!

Well, first and foremost, NOT obnoxious...and most definitely NOT American!!!

Be friendly peeps! I can see that you probably do get sent the same questions over and over and over.... I wasn't lazy I did look first. But I'm sure you can appreciate, 20 years is a long time and to make a decision based on what a City used to be like would be a little silly, hence my research and wanting to ask genuine people the question rather than look at a tourism Australia brochure.

Thanks Glen for the link BTW. Appreciate that.

It's a big decision, only I can make it and will only find out what Melbourne is really like when and if I decide to live there.... hmmm, perhaps it's best to wait and see if I get the job first!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

I thank this forum for its time and if I do decide to jump into a new life, I'll be back on here asking for pub recommendations!!

Thanx <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/im Not Worthy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> ( <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> )

Got to love how offensive being called an American is to any non-American. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/officechair.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />
