Hello From Maria (some Chick From The States)
#1
Hi there.

Im planning on coming to Melbourne in September for a year. I'm just starting to do some research and came across this site. I figured it wouldn't hurt to say hello <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fishie:' />

Im 28, currently in Seattle WA, and excited to have a change in scenery for a bit.

Im sure I have ample questions, once the date gets closer and I have done my homework, but wanted to take a second to introduce myself.

So hi <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Welcome to Melbourne Chat, Maria.

What reasons move you to travel to Melbourne in particular?

Lots of reasons, from what I have read so far, and the responses I have seem on various travel/Australian websites Melbourne looks like an amazing city. I'm really into arts/music/theater as well so it seems a good match in that aspect as well.

The main motivation however is that my senior year at University, I was accepted into a study abroad program to Melbourne.. and my mom freaked out (gotta love mothers)... so I didn't go, and have pretty much always regretted it.

So, it seems that now's my time.. well in September anyway.

and thanks <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fishie:' />

Hey maria

You are going to love Melbourne (Pronounced Mel - bun) if you like the arts. Hows the grungy Seattle? Was there a few years back when I was in dry dock at Todd Shipyard, used to work on cruise ships. We have the Princess Theatre and Regent Theatre to name a few big ones, check out their websites as well as so mnay smaller theatres. And what are you studying? I am across the road from melb UNI if thats where u are going. You can write to me at compare_carmelo@hotmail.com if you want some more info

Thanks everyone!

I arrived safely... and have been here just about 2 weeks now. I found a place to call home, but am still right in the middle of the oh so fun task of finding a job.

I actually graduated from university a few years ago, so I am no longer studying, although I am sure I will go back at some point.. I'm just not sure what for yet.

As to "grungy" Seattle, I would say the weather here has been fairly similar, at least in the time I have been here anyway <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Anyways, I appreciate the greetings!
