New To Melbourne From The Coast
#1
Hello everyone,

I'm 25, and have just moved down from Gold Coast last month. Have settled in, got a job, all that's missing now is a social life. Currently living in an inner city suburb, working weekdays in the CBD. I'm more of a cafe/ conversations, as opposed to club/drinking. Is anyone out there interested in making a new friend? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Kara usually organizes cafe meetups here at Melbourne Chat and might pop into this thread to say, you'll like here... she is very friendly.

Welcome to Melbourne Chat, Jan.

Heya Jan!

Welcome to Melbourne! Yeah i keep trying to arrange coffee meetups but it never seems to work out (only been successful with organising one!) I'll PM you my email and you're more than welcome to come along on Friday - me and two other girls are getting together in a n outer eastern suburb for some coffee and maybe a bite to eat in the early arvo.

I'm the same as you, i'm looking for a social life that doesn't necessarily revolve around drinking ... just people to have conversation with and keep each other company ... perhaps have some fun adventures along the way!

Hey all <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I'd love to be a part of that coffee n catch up! I'm 27 and new to Melb myself... not being a clubber, I've been trying to figure out other ways of meeting new people!

If you could include me in the email list, that would be great <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi Narinna,

Welcome to Melbourne! Which suburb do you live in? I'm looking for walking buddies in Glen Iris. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I am moving to Melbourne on 10th May, (have finally set the date!) and am definitely interested in meeting people for coffee and good conversation as I know I'm going to feel really lonely when i first arrive. I'm on Facebook - Verity Cleo Farnworth if u want to add me....

Hi all... I'm also new to Melbourne (well I've been here for about 3 months only) and would totally love to join in on making new friends! I moved to Melbourne from Canada for work and definitely looking to make new friends over here!

Hi Derric! Welcome to Melbourne. I tried attending a meet up from meetup.com last Sunday and it went pretty well. You might want to try that venue.

I wonder if we should organise one for the people here?

Hello,

I've also recently moved to Australia for work and would love to find friends and learn more about the culture here. I'm from America and am heading into Melbourne this Saturday 1st of May to browse some of the various markets around town if anyone would like to join or meet up or suggest some good places please let me know. Thank you.

If you are looking for an authentic market experience, Rachel, try The Queen Victoria Market on the city fringe.

Hi Rachel,

Welcome to Melbourne! My favourite market is the Camberwell Sunday Market, which is held in the parking lot off Prospect Hill Road at Camberwell every Sunday. Lots of trinkets, antiques and recycled designer stuff. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Just take the train to Camberwell train station, then get directions. (I think it's on the Lilydale/ Belgrave line).

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan on going to the Queen Victoria market first as it looks to be quite large with many options. I would love to try the Camberwell for the antiques but I have to work on Sunday so maybe another week. Also could anyone suggest good day trips in the Victoria area for the winter?

Ooo ...Sunday is the best day to visit the Queen Vic.

Consider driving down the very scenic Great Ocean Road to The Otway Fly http://www.otwayfly.com/

Random Comment: In Australia, electricians are known as sparkies.

Interesting, I choose it because my stallion at home is named Sparky <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> I've learned many new names for things out here and a few things I'm still guessing at their meaning but most make sense to me such as a torch is a flashlight, but a float is a horse trailer?? Definitely fun to be learning new things out here.
