Etag Melbourne

etag Melbourne

Does anyone know if you are just visiting melbourne for a few weeks, would you be able to get an etag (for City Link or EastLink) if you really wanted one?

I had a look at the City Link website and they seem to discourage people from getting an etag for short stays. They seem to encourage you to get a "CityLink Access Account" which they say is "ideal if you only need to use CityLink occasionally".

I was just wondering if you could insist on getting the etag just in case you come back one day.... say in a years time.

I did notice that for the etag account (called an "Everyday account")... they say there is a $50 opening payment which automatically becomes an account credit for use on CityLink. That is fine, but the next bit says you need to pay "$27.50 minimum annual payment fee per e-TAG for the first three years of your e-TAG". This seems a bit harsh! So after the first three years the thing is free? I am not sure what is so special about the first three years.

Cheers, Glen

Glen, keep in mind that the e-Tag itself is an expensive (well probably not that expensive but still an environment impact applies) piece of electronics that needs to be justified, can't just go around giving 'em out willy nilly.

I thought I got my one for free when they first came out....But it was so long ago I can't remember for sure <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

...even more reason for CityLink to keep eTag hand outs to minimal. If a new account costs $200 (arguments sake the admin, eTag and whatever else costs) for CityLink to open then opening a short term account is not profitable.

Road tolls are remarkably expensive and as welcomed as a medieval troll under a bridge.

Yeah it has been a bit quiet lately. I guess that people are suffering from serious myki depression and don't want to hear any more bad news.
