Not sure. I would go for the lowest cheapest ipad version. I did the same with the ipod and the smallest one was good enough!

I just did a search and the official Australian Ipad prices are still not released. But the Australian Apple website says they will be available for pre-order on 10 May 2010.

I am guessing the cheapest one is the 16gb version. So i think the price I quoted above (i.e $899) is the cheapest one! EEEK!!! Hopefully the official price for australian stock will be lower.

Here is some more info in ipod pricing for australia and also some info on Ipad Data Plan Rates for the Australian Market:

Quote:The three models are priced at $799 (for the 16GB version), $929 (32GB) and $1049 (64GB) - each about $170 more expensive than the Wi-Fi only equivalent iPads.

Telstra is offering the following pre-paid plans :

* 1GB - $20

* 3GB - $30

* 6GB - $60

* 9GB - $80

* 12GB - $100

Telstra says all data plans will be available without a contract, on a month-by-month basis, meaning plans can be cancelled and reactivated at any time. The data allowance is valid for 30 days.

Telstra is sweetening the offer by offering subscribers an additional 2GB of data in the first month if they sign on by the end of June.

Optus says it will also be providing pre-paid iPad data plans but for the time being has announced its so-called BYO month-to-month post-paid plans:

* 2GB - $20

* 3GB - $30

* 8GB - $60

A spokeswoman for Vodafone Hutchison says the company will be annoucing details of its iPad 3G data plans in the coming week.

Apple begins taking pre-orders for the iPad from Monday.

Quote:But local consumer researcher TNS reports that buying intentions among consumers who felt they knew enough to comment about the device was flat, at best. Most of those polled cited shortcomings such as a lack of camera, USB port or ability to play Flash video as reasons for not intending to buy an iPad.

The TNS research, conducted before the price plans were announced, showed that the iPad was not widely considered a satisfactory replacement for a laptop.

Quote:Prices for the Wi-Fi-only models range from $629 for the 16 gigabyte (GB) unit to $879 for the 64 GB unit. The 32 GB unit will sell for $759.

For the Wi-Fi-plus-3G model, consumers will pay $799 (16 GB model), $928 (32 GB) and $1049 (64 GB).

Quote:Many who were early to pre-order are already receiving their iPads but now that new orders aren't slated to be delivered for a few more weeks, many are expected to brave the cold outside Apple stores nationwide in the hope of collecting one at 8am tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, buy some fancy air.

iPad is just ridiculous. It's basically an iPod Touch without it being as easy to carry around. Think of how easy you could break it. >.<

Not to mention they advertise it as being 'the entire web in your hands' (or something along those lines), and yet it doesn't even support Flash. No portable YouTube for you guys!

And has anybody else noticed that the ads are just buzz words and actually doesn't say a thing about the iPad at all?

Bah, I guess MadTV got it right... over three years ago.

(And if you're using an iPad, you can't watch that.)

And I guess this is the future of Apple:

Wow, i had no idea that the iPad is not equipped with Flash, very limiting indeed.
