Sleep Apnea Test?

Sleep Apnea Test?

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a sleep apnea test that you can do at home rather than go see a doctor to do it?

I have wondered in the past whether I have it. If i did have sleep apnea I think it would be a very mild case <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I think so long as I sleep on my side I am OK. But if I sleep on my back sometimes I wake myself up somehow. Maybe I hear myself snoring! Not sure! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Sleepy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Determining respiratory states without contact sensors would be very difficult and impossible when attempting to determine sleep states ('cept maybe REM sleep if a visual of the rapid eye movement can be identified). Identifying a persons breathing via audio and visual alone would be the difficult alternative, although; you could always just try placing a microphone and video camera near by, Glen. I suppose a really powerful directional microphone would actually be more helpful when attempting to identify respiratory states. /myopinion

GREAT idea! just set a video cam up. Apnoea can be very serious .... if i were you i'd prob get it checked out or at least talk to a doctor about it. Normally when you have it you stop breathing for 7 seconds or more (or it might be 10) and some times you gasp for air when you wake back up .... the danger is you will stop breathing for too long. It can be caused by a few different things too, only one that's treatable as far as i know is where they widen the nasal cavities etc. But my mum does what you mentioned - wakes herself up when she snores .... maybe that's all you have?

Either way, i think iblis is onto something ... set up a cam and a mic and video tape ya self for a few nights to see whats going on.
