Quite an impressive speech from both the dear departed and the incumbent. Julia Gillard is an impressive women (sorta a male version of Kevin but more outwardly geared toward team work), i might actually vote for her. or the Greens ...still haven't decided. Still no way i'd vote for Abbott.
My first thoughts were that "oh now, now Abbott actually has a chance of winning the election" but i'm not so sure after Gillard's speech.

Yeah I think it might make it harder for Tony. But I still think he has a good shot.
After all, Julia stood behind all of the Labour policies as if they were her own. And I can't see how she or anyone else in the party can just badge the policies as "Kevin's policies". Don't they have any backbone to stand up to a leader? Were they scared of him or something? I am sure Tony will make the point soon enough and capitalise on it.
My view is that Labour's policies turned bad. But even more importantly, the party promised a lot and failed to deliver (other than the "big spend" to ward off the GFC). But I think it is actually pretty easy to spend other people's money!! I don't think that takes much skill.
So in summary, it was not the leader to blame. They are all to blame!!!
With that said, I am glad that they may actually try a bit harder to deliver something! Though perhaps too little too late!

hahah funny pic!
i saw part of rudd's speech. well he said he was going to fight for the job but looks like he changed his mind. At first i thought maybe this whole thing was just some publicity stunt! But it seems that maybe it was actually a real take over by Julia!

I asked 'cause Rudd mentioned his accomplishments, and he was busy the past two and a half years. I'm not really sure how you can complain that he did't get the proverbial job done, its not like he didn't try to pass the carbon tax.

Yeah I guess he did try and do stuff. But I don't think trying gets you re-elected.
I know in Victoria the State government does not hold the balance of power in the upper house (like the Federal Senate) and they still seem to get their proposals through Parliament most of the time (though I know they had some trouble recently with the proposed urban growth boundary expansion).
So if the Victorians can successfully negotiate with the opposition and make new laws etc then how come the Federal govt can't do it?? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

I don't really know, Victoria Labour possibly gets the support of the Greens.
Trying certainly doesn't equate to re-election, doesn't even equate to a full term in the Labour party.

hahaha yes that is true! i wonder whether rudd will still be a minister or just go for the lazy option of sitting on the back bench to get all that juicy superannuation!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Yeah I wonder whether the Victorian status would be held against her! Maybe they won't publicise that too widely interstate!!
I would not be surprised if they offer Rudd some cushy job in China but I guess his family might not want to go over there in which case maybe he could work from home via skype to china! hahaha <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
I don't blame the Dudd for not going to China.
My son in law just returned from two week business trip. (I forget which city).
He said the pollution is disgusting.
More reason to have a tighter immigration policy in lieu of an earth friendlier environmental policy.
Hi Iblis.
You may get your wish.
I hear that slow talkin' Jul has pointed to changes in that direction.
Greens and other loonies won't like it however!
Yeah, that recent announcement of Gillards is what i based by comment on, Peter.
LOL @ slow talkin'. I wonder if she was ever a primary school teacher.

Sounds really exciting, Peter. Best of luck to your grandsons team.
The national gallery and museum are must sees that are probably already on your agenda.
