Looking For Spanish Speaking Melbourians! =)
#1
Hello everyone,

Just a very quick intro. I'm a South American/Kiwi, I will be moving to Melbourne in a few weeks (NZ is beautiful but too small for me!). I immigrated to NZ when I was six and as the years progressed my Spanish slowly started to deteriorate. I'm a great book lover, of all genres but specially Spanish litereature (I read the english versions of course!).

I'm wondering if there is anybody out there who would be interested in starting a Spanish book club with me. I'd love to finally be able to read Don Quijote and Cien Anos De Soledad in their original form! I've tried to do this on my own, but it's such a slow laborious process which would be made so much easier if I had someone to share the burden with =D

Ideally i'd be keen to get in touch with intermediate to advance Spanish speakers, maybe someone like me who left their Spanish speaking country from a young age and feels ashamed at not being able to speak/read/write in their birth language =) As a bonus it would be nice to have a Melbourian show me the sights!

Cheers

Hi there Ligia,

I was glad to read your post and see that i'm not alone out there, having lost a lot of my spanish and feeling guilty for it, being half S.Amercian. I'm moving to Melbourne in a few days from Auckland, don't know many people, am hoping to meet some like minded people and improving my spanish would be a bonus!! Would love to get in touch, sounds like we have quite a bit in common already, <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Am not too keen on putting contact details on here, am new to this...what's the best way?...

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hola Ligia,

Si quieres practicar Español puedes hablar conmigo aquí. Te contaré un secreto: Para un alto porcetaje de españoles es compleja la lectura de Don Quijote, ya que está escrito en castellano antiguo y muchas palabras varían con respecto al castellano actual.

Ciao!

This is a group that meets very regularly to practise Spanish. There are native speakers as well as beginner to advanced non-native speakers. I'm part of the group and I love it. You should check it out; you might like it. Hope I could help.

Cheers
