Hi Everyone,

My name is Neet and ive just joined up here. Hope this post finds you well.<img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I'm so glad to have found this webbie coz I desperately need advice, insights, etc about melbourne. I'am planning to move to Melbourne, been in perth for 3 yrs now.

Exciting but scary too, starting over in a new city AGAIN !! But the best part is that am not alone. I'll be havin' the company of my son ''Armaan'' who's actually just 6 mnths right now and is the biggest joy of my life. He makes me smile, I see him and I forget all my troubles.

The first thing i have to do before I move to Melb'rn is to rent a place. Can anyone pls tell me about the suburbs here, i mean every place has a bad and a good part , which are the decent suburbs I can look for and the ones I need to avoid..

Will be posting up some questions in the other sections also, looking forward to getting some insider info on Melb I hope <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Thanks to All !!

Hey neet! Welcome aboard!! We are happy to answer any questions you might have about melbourne.

Though the "Which suburb is the best suburb in melbourne?" question comes up a lot and I am afraid we still don't have a perfect answer to that one. Though if you look in the real estate section you will see some previous answers:

Hi Neet,

Generally, closer to the city the better although with a higher cost in housing and rent.

The best suburbs in Melbourne are generally (but not all of them) in the Eastern, Southeastern and Bayside suburbs.

Places to avoid are the Western suburbs (although there are exceptions), parts of the Northern suburbs and Dandenong.

The outer Eastern suburbs and outer Southeastern suburbs are magnets for low-middle class families and aren't as bad as the Western suburbs and parts of the Northern suburbs but lack amenities and entertainment and could be better when it comes to public transport. But lack of amenities and entertainment and poor public transport also applies for most of Melbourne's outer suburbs.

Many of the inner to middle suburbs in the East and Southeast have positive reputations, but this is also the case for many of the inner Northern suburbs.

Suburbs with a bad reputation include: St Albans, Sunshine, Melton, Broadmeadows and Dandenong.

I honestly believe that the best suburb in Melbourne is Fitzroy with its great shops, live music scene (what's left of it due to yuppies whinging about the noise), being close to the city, I could go on. Northcote wouldn't be far behind. But everyone will have their own opinion on what the best is.

This website is also great at helping decide where to live in Melbourne: http://www.cityhobo.com/
