Have You Moved From England To Melbourne?
#1
Have you moved to Oz from the UK? Ca you please tell me about your experience?

I am from England, I move to Perth for a year but moved back to England due to family. I often think I made a mistake - how do you choose between family and lifestyle?

I have small children and I often think they'd have a better life in Australia, my husband and I are both well educated and like to be active people - it's hard to have an outdoors lifestykle in England..

Is education better?

What are your likes and dislikes?

Do you also struggle with missing family?[Image: cool.gif]

Is it a lot more expensive??

Hey,

I will help you out with the answers I know!

I do struggle with missing family and friends but you soon make new friends over here - especially if you are working and join a club etc (I joined a football club and made quite a few friends from that)

It is more expensive but it works out about the same as generally the average wage is higher here, especially in WA.

And likes have to be the weather, the general multi-cultural society and just the breathtaking country. Also the food is great here in Melbourne and you're never short of things to do.

Dislikes would have to be how far away it is from anywhere and how expensive it is to get out. A flight to NZ is 3 1/2 hours at least which from england could take you to 50 different places for cheaper. the only holiday destinations are nz and bali. not fantastic once you've been to both!

Anyway, hope this helps.

One thing that's very expensive are the house prices. Melbourne (all of Australia is in fact) is in the middle of a huge real estate bubble.

The Economist, Demographia, Jeremy Grantham, Steve Keen and many others have calculated that Australian house prices are overvalued by up to 60% and that a crash is due.

See below for some more details.....

Also inflation is running very high in Australia so the prices for everyday good is becoming a lot more expensive.

Australia is no longer the cheap destination it used to be!
