Christmas Myer Windows And Other
#1
The Myer windows last year were a disappointment. Indeed in recent years they have been an excuse to promote a new book. I don't have a great problem with that because anything that promotes reading is in my opinion a good thing.

This year however after a long time they have returned to the tradition and they are doing the nut cracker. Some of the traditional stories should I think be revived then again I also like the idea of a few modern Aussie authors being promoted.

The nutcracker is a lovely traditional tale.

Its actually quite lovely.

The test I think is to see if the windows can be as magical for adults as they are to children. I still don't think the windows are quite an impressive as the old days and I think that's because I think the genius behind them Fred Asmussen is long gone and maybe I am older.

Still I must say this year they look fresh and delightful. I am scared that soon they will be computer enhanced images.

Over all in our department stores it is no where near as impressive as it was in the past.

Us older folk were so lucky that we had Myer and Foys rooftop carnival with its beautiful animated figures and rides. Of course there's Santa Land and the staff do a great job. I took my God daughter who thought the train was a bit babyish... shes four!!!

Unfortunately because of the OHS laws and everyone understandably scared of being sued for accidents today the old magic has gone.

Just one thing on Santa Land at Myer. Although its not what oldies like me recall the young staff there are just brilliant. Great that Myer is giving work to young people and they do their job brilliantly. The wages are actually pretty good too!

Just wondered Glen if you have been a good boy and what are you hoping Santa brings you for Christmas.

Our mate Peterj should be happy, he got a change of Government.

Another good attraction at Christmas is the Christmas display at South Bank.. its lovely. In the foyer of hotel.

Me and the lovely Kara went and thought it was quite delightful. Sometimes it's good to stick with tradition.

Hey peter. I don't know if I have been sufficiently good for santa to visit. I hope so!!! I watched "Elf" the other night. Or at least most of it. Was kinda entertaining.

You are always a good boy!

I never liked ELF but I love a good Christmas movie (not the religious ones). MIracle on 34th street is always a winner!

I actually try not to say happy Christmas as I find it politically questionable but old habits die hard lol.

yes well you can always say "season's greetings" or something like that <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
