Your view point overlooks the scenario where weekend work is the majority of a workers' roster.
My penalty rates are around 30% of my pay. I seriously doubt my employer is going to give me a 30% pay rise in lieu of penalty rates, particularly if it involves all the other site employees getting that same increase despite not previously being weekend workers.
If your employer can get away with cutting your pay they will. They went rampant under workchoices. That's a fact.
Maximising profits has always been prioritised over decent employee renumeration for companies listed on the ASX.
Why?
Because it's a free market.
As for what I'm worth? Easy. I'm worth what I'm currently getting... as per the agreement.
I don't believe the Liberal Party are going for a "win win" by attempting to devalue my labour.
It's a bit like saying they want to increase the GST.... for our own good
