Where To Live In Melbourne - Shaggs - 20-04-2009

We are looking to move to Melbourne in the next 4-8 weeks for husbands work. We have three kids in primary school so school and kid friendly neighbourhoods are important. We have been looking in the Bayside area and can spend up to $800 week rent for a four bedroom but this cuts into our savings and would really prefer not to spend so much. Husband will be working in the city so trains are important also. We are now looking into the suburbs outside of Melbourne but just have no idea what region/area, what is considered a nice area etc and I wont be able to make it down for a look around (which I think wont really help anyway). I desperately need some local advice - where would you live if you could live anywhere in Melbourne? Keep in mind the kids and family. We're not adverse to the city but once again, we dont know the areas of the city. HELP!

Hi shaggs, picking a suburb in melbourne is not that easy, mainly because most of them are fine!

Maybe you could name a few and we could comment on any that stand out as being particularly bad.

Cheers, Glen
