Are you asking is it still safe to fly to Melbourne?

H1n1 Swine Flu Virus Melbourne - cwongst - 04-06-2009

Yes yes, I'm bringing her there for a holiday.

H1n1 Swine Flu Virus Melbourne - POWERZONE - 04-06-2009

I don't see any reason why it would ever be unsafe to fly there...

Where are you starting from?

I'm flying from Singapore. As I read the news that the no. of H1N1 is increasing in Melb thus getting a bit worried <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

It's increasing in just about every part of the world unfortunately, I don't think there's any escape from it.

But from what I've seen, heard and read it's no more severe than any other flu virus so unless you're at a high risk of life threatening complications from catching any flu I'd say you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

The H1N1 has been reported to have minor symptoms and is likely a weaker strain of the very common Influenza A virus. The current 700+ confirmed cases of Influenza H1N1 in Victoria is likely to increase rapidly considering that H1N1 is an easily transmitted virus compared to say the H5N1 (an avian strain).

Just be sure to wash your hands vigorously and regularly and away from orifices, and you and your granny should be fine to travel to Melbourne, just be sure to seek medical advice at the first sign of illness, especially for your granny.

Thks guys! Hearing your advise kind of consolation.

I'm keeping my fingers really crossed during this couple of days.

Its a huge responsibility as I'm bringing her along.

Funnily enough, a Radio National broadcast last night noted that people over 40 appear to be immune to Influenza A H1N1 with cases being prominent in younger generations.

The virus is sky rocketing down here as it is winter and it is flu season. I think at my work there is a guy with swine flu. He is coughing all the time! I hope he does not pass it around!!!
