Key points:

  • A Dandenong man, 25, shouted he had a bomb and tried to get into the cockpit, police say
  • The plane turned back to Melbourne after at least one passenger and crew tackled him
  • He was arrested by tactical police on landing and has been taken into custody
  • The man had an "electronic device" that was not an explosive, police say

Some crazy nut clearly but how did he get this... thing with wires on the plane?

Hey Mello
There is only one road into Melb Airport! If there is an accident no one gets to the airport
The only other way is by helicopter or charted plane from somewhere else.
Opened 1970!
Too soon to think about a rail link. Not even a temporary rail spur link.
33 mil passangers at last count and our hero pollies tell us: "no business case."
That's code for keep busses and taxis on side.

no, there wasnt a delay getting there, they were fluffing about with "procedures" on the tarmac

-suspected bomb on plane

-are there any unknown accomplices

-is it "safe" to board

-bla bla bla, call a dumbarse politician for permission to do their jobs, he has to call some risk assessment group and acts according to his/or her poll ratings

basically they were treating it like a hostage situation when it was the passengers who had already had it under control

Yep - pretty unsatisfactory really - Federal police being paid to provide security at the airport are not trained to detain a crazy passenger???

Passengers are able to detain the guy but trained police are not?

Now there's a case for an enquiry!!!

I reckon they should have just evacuated the passengers as soon as it landed.

Crikey I wouldn't want to be unnecessarily trapped in a grounded plane for an hour with a bloo tooth bomb.

To me it looked like the authorities were unprepared.

Maybe install an outdoor bowling alley? lol

Isis fanatics have the hope of xx virgins in heaven.

Another bunch of "hopefuls" causing deaths on a London bridge.
Will our very own AAT Islam loving twits now see any light? At all?

And how will the ABC paint this episode?

Peter my les miserables quote was in reference to QLD football team LoL ... they can only hope

in reference to mentally ill individuals, there are various therapies available ...

50 bullets fired at 3 mentally ill individuals wearing what was believed to be suicide vests after 8 minutes, forgoing personal risk and safety

compared to

a flotilla of heavily armed police awaiting orders to liberate over 200 passengers and one hog tied mentally ill individual... for over an hour and a half

one shows the directness and haste needed, learned from Paris attacks, to minimise casualties in the long and short term, the other not learning anything and holding group therapy sessions formulating the safest avenue for their poll ratings

Isis are an irrelevant joke, they claim responsibility for disgruntled gamblers setting fire to casinos, its the home grown, native born, mentally ill individuals amongst us that are the most unpredictable and difficult to isolate

people can rattle on about walls, bridges, internments, deportations, segregation, vetting, travel bans, its the weakness of technology unwilling or unable to shut down their avenues of hate filled communication

they dont just use normal internet either, and they must be getting their tech from somebody

Hello Mello.

I was aware of the link between hope and the QRT.
I just continued the vein.

Terrorists are in command and are winning all over.
The Crusades must be reformed, our only hope.
The old and bold Christains knew what was requried, fkuc the terrorist's yumman rights.
Channel 10 reported the terror attack in South London, after 16 minutes no mention of Muslims, Isis, Islam.
Who the fkuc do they think were doing the terror? Plumber Jack and his Electrician mates Brian and Bruce?

Brilliant response by the London Police.
I need to say the evacuating of people with hands on head was demeaning and un-necessary.
What, were they going to shoot anyone who did not comply?

What about the police response at Tulla? All they had to do was ring the pilot and find out the situation, no had to have a group hug first.
They looked rediculous storming the plane in full riot gear guns able to put fist sized holes in anything in the plane!
Ha maybe he attached a bomb to the door! WTF did they think no one would notice a syco attaching a bomb to the big door!

im actually ok with the media taking the religion out of the motive and reporting as a stupid insane mentally ill rampage

i think the hands on heads gives them a pretty fair idea who is a friend and who is a foe ... the gutless cowards would mill amongst women and children to get away, confronted by a police officer he would be more likely to give himself away with some stupidly ridiculous move, like, whatever the crap is that they are brainwashed with

Hi Mello.
Ah still cannot see any logic in hands on head.
I imagine if the brainwashed wanted to get away by mingling he would probably put hands on head.
What does the fake vests tell you?
That perhaps they expected to survive?
Or that they are the poor cousins who cannot afford the real deal?

Might as well post the other nightmare in this thread...

THE MELBOURNE HOSTAGE SITUATION

4PM

* Police respond to a call about an explosion at an apartment building in Brighton

* They find a dead man in the foyer, he appears to have been shot

* They start trying to negotiate with a man inside an apartment, who was holding a woman against her will.

5.41PM

* Seven Network Melbourne newsroom gets a call from a woman who says she's involved in a hostage situation

* A man takes over the phone call to say "This is for IS, this is for al-Qaeda."

* Seven calls police to report the call.

6PM

* A gunman leaves the building and opens fire on police, injuring three of them

* Police fire back and kill him

* The woman is freed

* Two police officers are taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, a third is treated at the scene.

8PM

* Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp says police are investigating terrorism as one avenue of inquiry.
