Melbourne Chat Rules (Updated 7 June 2013)

Hi and welcome to MelbourneChat.org! We hope that you find the site to be a friendly and informative place to visit. To ensure the website runs smoothly, please observe the site rules

NEW MEMBERS - Please visit the Getting Started Guide.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS FOR NEW MEMBERS
If you have just signed up, and have validated your email address, you will be placed in the "Very New Members" group.

You will not be able to view member profiles.

Also, any posts you make in the forum will be checked manually by the forum moderators before they become visible to other members.

This is to protect the forum from spammers and other dodgy characters.

Once you have made some approved posts, then you will get greater access rights to the forum.

SELLING STUFF
As a general rule, selling anything on the forum (including the promotion of a website) is prohibited. From time to time we make exceptions if the person doing the selling is an established and active forum member or if they have something to sell that is genuinely interesting to members. If in doubt, please send a Personal Message (PM) to Glen.

DATING REQUESTS
This website is NOT a dating website. Please do not make messages calling for dates, love, hot girls etc. If you want a dating website, please go to a commercial site that provides that type of service. Also, please do not attempt to post adverts relating to singles nights, dating nights or dating agencies.

SIGNATURES
Any spammy links in signatures will be removed. The Admin and Moderation team will decide on a case-by-case basis what constitutes a spammy link! Links to facebook and myspace profiles are generally fine. If in doubt, please send a Personal Message (PM) to Glen.

MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS
Do not create more than one member account. This is grounds for being banned from the site.

PERSONAL MESSAGE AND EMAIL ABUSE
DO NOT send personal messages or email to members just to sell them something or get them to visit your website! Misuse of Personal Messages or Email will have your account deleted.

MANNERS
If you are rude, racist etc you will be banned.

SWEARING
Swearing is inappropriate. "Bad word" filters are in place to prevent certain words being used and they are instead replaced with #######.

DID YOU DELETE MY POST? WHY?
We rename topics or move them to different sub-forums from time to time to make information easier to find. So don't panic if you initially don't find your post ...it is still probably there....just search around for it in the most likely sub-forums. Or use the "My assistant" tool and click on "My last 10 posts". That should find the message for you. Most posts that get deleted have been identified as SPAM.

IS THERE AN EASY WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF RESPONSES TO MY POSTS?
Yes. You can subscribe to a thread so that if there are any responses to your message you can receive a notification of your choosing (e.g. email). Just click on the Track this topic link at the top of the thread that you are interested in monitoring. You can stop monitoring a topic by visiting the My Controls panel.

WHY CAN'T I EDIT OR DELETE MY POSTS?
There is a time limit of approx 200 minutes for you to make any edits to your posts in the forum. Click on the "edit" button below your post on the right hand side of the screen.

ABBREVIATIONS
Please do not use abbreviations such as som1, ppl, wtf, soz, brb because they are not understood by all readers.

WHY CAN'T I LOGIN?
If you have any trouble logging in, please write to me using the following email address melbchat///@///gmail///.com (but do not include the ///).

WHY CAN'T I WRITE ANYTHING IN THE FORUM?
The most common cause for this is where a member signs up to be a forum member but then fails to check their email AND click on the validation link in the email that the forum automatically sends to new members. You will not be able to write anything in the forum until the email address is validated. If you don't receive the validation email then please let us know and we can manually approve your membership. Email us at melbchat///@///gmail///.com (but do not include the ///).

DO THESE RULES CHANGE OFTEN?
They do change occasionally. Please check back every once in a while! Whenever I do a major update I would normally mention it in the forum.

Cheers,
Glen
