Hi Everybody,
I came to Australia as a skilled migrant,pharmacist, hoping that - as everybody thinks in far away lands!- I will find better opportunities and better appreciation of my qualifications and skills in the Dream Land, Australia!
But I haven't, at least so far, and found that reality are much harsher and harder than anyone would anticipate. I think that I'm doing my best; I've applied heavily for too many places, for public and government hospitals, private hospitals, retail pharmacies and chemists. I applied online, sent Resume through fax, phoned tens of pharmacies and hospitals, dropped a visit to many pharmacies door and left my resume at some of them who bothered to ask for one!, contacted many job agencies and registered for the best known online recruiters like seek and careerone and locumco and others.
I know that someone would say, mate! there is something wrong with your resume!
well, I told you, I'm doing my best! I attended a lecture about improving resume and job application hints.. I sat with an HR consultant that advised me to do only slight modification to my CV because mine rocks already! (Bytheway, she advised me to change my name to an Australia-sound one)
And yes I enclose a cover letter, revised one, with my applications.
besides, I've been contacted 3 times and interviewed once so my resume is not the problem after all. and I've gotta tell you, I was asked about my home country and my surname in a rude way in that interview.. it was not nice at all! (I read everything about them and prepared very well for the interview)
They didn't choose me of course because most likely I didn't tell my interviewer how to use Panadol in one of the presented cases!, and one pharmacy sent me email to thank me and wish me good luck somewhere else!
to be honest, my only drawback is my English communication skills, which something I can improve and I've already registered in some Language exchange, chat, toastmasters places and I'm applying for a conversation course in CAE, will start in July.
Is the problem "me"?
maybe,, but I want to close my topic with mentioning that I have:
*a BSc in Pharmacy (very good final grade)
*an MSc in Disease Control - Germany
* more than 6 years experience as a pharmacist in well known retail pharmacy business
and all what I'm looking for is JUST an Internship position which is something way less than my qualifications and experience! (p.s: I have a provisional registration from AHPRA)
