Orphee Eurydice, Melbourne 2007

Orphée et Eurydice

(Note: Sung in French!)

The Greek legend of Orpheus has captured the imaginations of creative artists over the centuries.

Gluck used this universal story to break the rigid conventions of late baroque music theatre and create a new operatic form.

In this famous version Hector Berlioz has adapted Gluck's original masterpiece for an all-female cast.

It includes some of opera's most sublime moments, including the famous 'J'ai perdu mon Eurydice' and the exquisite 'Dance of the Blessed Spirits'.

This production will be directed and choreographed by Bangarra Dance Theatre Artistic Director Stephen Page and conducted by Matthew Coorey, a young Australian conductor with a burgeoning international career.
