Words In Winter Celebrations 2007
Event Dates: - 3 - 12 Aug 2007
Itâs time for the annual WORDS IN WINTER CELEBRATIONS with writers, actors, musicians, poets, bookaholics, tourists and locals sharing in the magic of Words.
Now in its sixth year, the annual WORDS IN WINTER CELEBRATIONS will see poets, authors, artists, musicians and Wordsmiths gather to delight tourists and locals in Daylesford, Clunes and Talbot.
In cafes and pubs, a bowling club and an old court house, town halls, bookshops, libraries, a church and wine bars, a market and classrooms, studios and a B&B youâll come across Wordsmiths putting magic into words with enchanting performances during August. Poets will read their own compositions, authors discuss their work, singers/songwriters perform original material and historians present the communityâs past.
WORDS IN WINTER CELEBRATIONS opens with a traditional Mummersâ play and a presentation of Morris Dancing on August 3 and concludes with cosmic words and Russian supper at the privately-owned Talbot Observatory where a rare glimpse of a lunar eclipse may be seen on August 28. In between it is all happening in Daylesford and Clunes on 3, 4, 5 and 6 of August and in Talbot throughout the month.
Among the many and varied events there will be a food, wine and foodie trivia event, Super-8 film screening, a performance novella with six writers each writing a chapter in a café, community choirs, a piano performance with poetry, photography with text, humorous poetry workshop, Shakespeare sonnets and monologues with period music, a Scrabble Fest, a Book Ball where people dress as their favourite character and even an Op Shop Ball.

MORNING POETRY / WINNERS OF THE REASON BRISBANE
POETRY PRIZE
Joy Brisbane, patron of the prestigious Reason-Brisbane Poetry Prize will announce this yearâs winners, with readings of the winning poems, followed by an eclectic selection of poetry
performed by experienced readers. Hosted by Peppa Sindar.

WRITING FOR CHILDREN
Writing for children, whether fiction or non-fiction, ought to adhere to simple principles. Greg Pyers, a prolific and published author for children, will discuss and explore these principles in his Words in Winter workshop.

PERFORMANCE NOVELLA
During the course of six hours, at a table in the Red Star Café,six writers will create a novella, writing a chapter each in turn.

SCRABBLE FEST

MEET THE AUTHOR: ROBERT GOTT
Robert Gott, the creator of The Adventures of Naked Man and the author of the William Power mysteries, will read from his
latest novel, Amongst the Dead â a witty and elegant pastiche starring a failed Shakespearean actor and would-be detective.
Set in Australia during WWII, itâs a case of Sam Spade meets Jacques Tati. A question period will follow.
