Moon Lantern Festival, also known as mid-autumn festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth Chinese Lunar Calendar.



It will be held on 22 September at Boxhill and Federation Square.



People celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival to worship the moon as the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Moon cakes were given as gifts to celebrate this event.



It can be traced back as far as the ancient Dynasties of China (20th century BC-1060s BC).



Asian Moon Lantern festival is the most important date in the second half of the Lunar year and has been celebrated for 5000 years. It draws in audiences from all Asian backgrounds.



It is celebrated by Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Laotians, Cambodians, Koreans, Japanese, Indonesians, Malaysians and Singaporeans.



Over 600,000 locals and tourists celebrate this event across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The festival will includes lantern shows, chinese workshops, dances, songs, stalls selling gifts and more.
