To me he's a lengend, as I grew up in Adelaide I watched him on TV. He use to appear at public festivals, etc. Can I catch up with Humphrey in Melbourne.
Hi MelV,

That was a good question! I could have sworn it was still on TV but I can't find it in any Melbourne TV Guides. However I found an article on the web discussing the current Humphrey B Bear situation:

Children's TV favourite Humphrey B. Bear was speechless, as always, today when it was announced he will this year record the first new episodes of his show Here's Humphrey since 2003.

The Nine Network announcement was made amid speculation Humphrey could disappear from Australian television screens for good.

The Australian rights to Here's Humphrey are held by Eddie McGuire's Nine, but under the arrangement the network can only repeat each episode three times.

It has only three weeks worth of episodes in the can.

But now a deal has been struck with Adelaide-based company Banksia Productions to continue the 40-year journey with Humphrey, who doesn't talk, and his friends in the Magic Forest.

"It's fantastic that the families of Australia will continue to enjoy what's been an institution in this country for more than 40 years,'' Nine director of programming Michael Healy said.

Humphrey first hit Australian screens on May 24, 1965.

The delay on a new deal between Nine and Banksia sparked speculation that rival channels Seven or Ten could give the bear a new treehouse.

Humphrey is a successful export product, with special Mandarin and Spanish-spoken editions recorded in Adelaide for the Chinese, Spanish and South American markets.
