Hi All

Good Day. We will be migrating to Melbourne in Feb, 2011. I am really excited and anxious at the same time as its my first time in Australia. My husband is into IT and has been to Melbourne a couple of times on work. I have so many questions to ask and any advice will be much appreciated. From what I gauge on the net is that buying a house in the suburbs is relatively cheaper but i don't know which suburbs are suitable for us, with regard to distance from the city. I have heard a lot about point cook? also, we plan to buy a family home, something not too expensive. Can anyone please suggest us some good options on buying a house in the suburbs. Thanks a lot. Have a great day.
hi nill, unfortunately there is nowhere cheap in melbourne anymore. we have just gone through a property boom and prices in melb will soon be worse than sydney. best bet is to find a house on a train line (all the metro trains go to the city) far far far away from the city! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
Dear Glen,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I guess we are really unlucky as far as the property price boom goes...............Even here in India and in the Gulf, the prices are just sky rocketing...............

Glen, just a question please. What about Richmond? My husband says its very close to Melbourne. Ofcourse, we will have to go around looking for a suitable house. Can you please give me your views on Richmond. Thanks a lot. Cheers!! Nillufer
Richmond is fine. It is kind of trendy and gritty. And SUPER expensive!
Dear Glen,

I guessed so. I hope we get a suitable place once we land in Melbourne. I guess it's better we stay on rent initially and then slowly look around for a townhouse in the suburbs. Glen, Ive also heard about chadstone. will houses be cheaper in this suburb?

Thanks again. Cheers. Nillufer
No chadstone it is also very expensive. Though it will be cheaper that Richmond!
Hi,

Even we are planning to move there but in later part of 2011. If Melbourne is avoidable, try for Geelong. Its 2nd largest city in Victoria. Proper infrastructure , markets, schools etc

Best wishes
