I have actually been in Melbourne more then a year, though spending the first few months working all week, sleeping and never doing anything probably did not help my social life, got couple mates where I study Interactive Multimedia.

Though seems like the only way i can really meet people in Melbourne is by going out to pubs/clubs, though I have met few girls that are mostly interested in dating, I actually want friends, girls and what I am mostly lacking guy friends

(its a real shame that guys seem to think any approach from a strange guy here must be gay, you all homophobics or what?, seems girls settle in fast, guess male social skills are totally lacking here)

I have spent too much time avoiding going out, its killing me now lol. Anyways I live in Brunswick East. looking for mates to do whatever, I dont really care what.

Any one slightly interested and brave enough, drop me a line <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Oh by the way I am not gay lol.

thought i would say that just in case, and anyway like it matters. friends a friend

I do that ...probably 'cause of last year spent in Musical Theatre.

Good luck in your search, Travis.
welcome Travis - can i ask where you lived before melbourne? I have been a little slack of late but am well overdue to organise another melb chat cafe meetup ... but when the next one is arranged we'll hope to see you there. mean time feel free to add me to msn =) What kind of things are you interested in?
Hiya <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> I lived in Sydney for 2 yrs before this, Byron Bay for 8 yrs and before that I i jumped between Australia, US and South Africa, and few odd places i lived on boat so traveled to many islands etc.

I like skateboarding but haven't done it in over a year as i injured myself, stopped and became lazy i guess. So i like a lot of digital art stuff mostly I am studying right now doing some freelance stuff to get by.. like website stuff and other odd things.

I want to go out meet people, I haven't gone out maybe more then 8 times since i been here, but found i did not have fun due to being alone etc, i just tried to meet people, though people in Melbourne are the hardest to meet i have ever come across.

Anyways besides the night life i just want to meet friends, going out isnt that important to me, just needed to be social. seemed the easiest way.

And yeah love to go have coffee with strangers lol... scary >_< .. but is not meeting people always.
ohhh, interesting that you lived on a boat for years! do tell more ....

i highly recommend meetup.com ... they have a range of different groups you can join and do social activities with.

cool, i shall try and organise the meetup asap.
Kara, i'll tack on some rock climbing to the end of the meet up so can we head to a coffee shop in the city that is nearby 501 Swanston Street?

Anybody that wants to rock climb after the meet up is welcome.
Heh. Hardrock probably employs the "Enter at your Own Risk" policy to all ages, Peter. :-)
lol i shattered my wrist over year ago, never been the same, i would love to do rock climbing, just do not know if i can? the wrist is ok just cant bend it much maybe 30 degrees each way lol

thats why i stopped skating, was scared of falling on it, doctor said if i break again, it will be very bad.
I broke my wrist broke during a motorcycle trauma back in '96 and am still able to rock climbing, Travis, although; i do have a plate ...and besides, rock climbing is all in the legs.

Nawww, that sucks dude ... you generally don't bend ya wrists in rock climbing ... you more twist your ankles if anything ... but you still need strength in ya wrists ...

yah it's meant to be .... but you still need a fair amount of wrist and arm strength i find ... esp for parts involving an overhang or tilt back.

Ha Ha :-P :-)
Technically, both ...for Israel.
So what is happening in Israel? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> Are you gonna work there?
Eventually, although; i'll probably concentrate on avoiding death for the first few months while i settle in, glen. :-)

Israel is a nice stepping stone to the rest of Europe.
Hello Iblis.

That sounds like a grand adventure!

Stay north (I think) to avoid the rockets!

I hope you still post, it will be interesting to hear of your travels.
I will in fact be staying in the north and will be able to post with the available Internet access where i'll be staying, Peter.
I've no idea, Peter and will be staying at a boarding school for the first 5 months and will take what i'm given (free Internet access anyways). :-) Israel probably has decent speeds, seems that only we here in Australia are lacking in the developed nation broadband stakes.
boarding school?? you are too old buddy!!! hahaha
