Hi guys,

I am soon moving to melbourne where I plan to buy a second hand car. I have come across the terms RWC,rego and car tax. What is the difference between these? Do I also need insurance seperate to these?
RWC = road worthy certificate

rego - registration (big dollars!!)

car tax - I presume you mean stamp duty.

And yes you need insurance on top though you do get some personal injury insurance (not property damage insurance) when you pay the registration fee.

A new car is second only to a home as the most expensive purchase many consumers make. With so many makes and models of car available, choosing the right car can be a very confusing, time consuming as well as expensive exercise. Never forget that the vehicle should meet your needs and requirements, and most importantly be within your price range.
If it's a used car you're buying, it's a good idea to have it independently inspected before you commit to purchasing it. In NSW the National Roads and Motorists Association (NRMA) does these inspections. In Victoria, you would do it through the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV).
